Dr. David Chua, MD, specializes in Internal Medicine and joined the Hawarden Clinic in December 2021. He made this decision to establish roots close to home, positively impact a small community, and prioritize more time with his family.

Before joining Hawarden Regional Healthcare, Dr. Chua spent the majority of his career as a physician in a private group in Sioux City, IA, and as a hospitalist at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. He completed his medical education at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and underwent his Internal Medicine residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA. Dr. Chua is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

During his time in medical school, Dr. Chua participated in medical missions in the Philippines, where he helped underserved rural communities. This experience fueled his passion for adult medicine in a rural setting. Dr. Chua specializes in internal medicine, which focuses on treating adults aged 18 and older. Internal medicine involves using scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to diagnose, treat, and care for patients with a wide range of conditions, ranging from common ailments to complex illnesses. Internal medicine physicians, like Dr. Chua, are particularly skilled at diagnosing challenging medical issues and managing chronic illnesses, especially in patients who may have multiple health concerns.

Dr. Chua and his wife, Jennifer, have made Sioux Center their home since 2015. They have two young children, Aiden and Juliette. Jennifer is involved in a three-generation family-run business, Formosa Foods, located in Hull, IA.

In his free time, Dr. Chua enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, watching movies, trying new foods, and enjoying quality moments with his family.
